What that means

Meeting Tomorrow's Demand with 800 New Megawatts

Connecticut's energy needs are evolving and changing. Demand is growing as the state experiences continued expansion in housing, new business, electrification and clean energy.

To keep pace, we need an electric grid that supports reliability and long-term economic growth, while balancing affordability — not just today, but for the years ahead.

We will add almost 800MW of capacity to the electric grid over the next decade to deliver more power when it's needed.

By 2035, our investments will enable

Building a Stronger, More Reliable System for Every Day

Electricity may feel instant when you flip a switch, but it takes a complex, coordinated system and skilled employees to deliver it to your business.

Our over 4,000 Connecticut employees are committed to working year-round to keep your power safe and reliable. Even when high heat and extreme cold hit our system, it's built to withstand more than ever before for your everyday needs.

Prepared for Whatever New England Weather Brings

From coastal flooding and winter ice to high winds and extreme rain, New England weather will continue to challenge the electric system.

That's why we're investing in a stronger, more resilient grid that can better withstand extreme weather, reduce outages and restore power more quickly when you demand that the power stays on.

Last year we strengthened resiliency by:

  • Replacing transformers and increasing additional power routing options during an outage at substations.
  • Proactively conducting tree reviews based on data and prioritizing trees for removal. We proactively removed nearly 15,027 trees to prevent significant outages.
  • Installing 24 smart switches to isolate outages and accelerate restoration efforts.
