Business Energy-Saving Tips for Summer

Keep employees and customers comfortable while keeping costs down

Keeping Your Business Cool

  • Install programmable thermostats. You can save as much as 10% a year on heating and cooling by adjusting your thermostat back 7°-10°F for 8 hours a day from its typical setting. A smart thermostat takes that a step further by allowing you to set your temperature from your smart phone or tablet. Consider enrolling in our ConnectedSolutions demand response program to earn rewards for participating in peak energy events.
  • Remember to change your commercial HVAC filters. Remember to check your equipment filters at the start of the season and change them out or clean as needed. A clean filter will maximize your system's output.
  • Seal and drafts. Check that areas around your doors and windows are sealed tight to prevent cool air from leaking out of your business.

Lighting and Electronics

  • Unplug electronics. Lots of devices use energy even when they're turned off. Unplugging electronics at the end of the day, or using advanced power strips, can help prevent this "phantom drain".
  • Optimize your energy settings. Take a moment to check that your devices and/or building or energy management systems are optimized to their most energy-efficient settings.
  • Promote energy awareness. Educate employees about energy-saving practices and encourage them to adopt energy-conscious behaviors, such as turning off lights and unplugging electronics when not in use.
